“Ecotone”
is a transition zone connecting different ecosystems; it is an “edge”
where a great variety of species can be exposed to each other. As we restructure
the environment and expand human habitat, finding ourselves creating new edges,
Ecotone Land Design sees an obligation to be good stewards. Therefore, while
experienced in traditional site design practices, Ecotone Land Design, Inc.
is dedicated to structuring the environment for both aesthetic and functional
purposes by striving to create great experiences while sustaining the beauty
and ecological value of a site.
The
firm strives to improve our communities' quality of life by emphasizing green,
sustainable strategies and creating the detail needed to make an inspiration
come to life by blending hardscape, greenscape, natural habitat, etc. into
a seamless experience. Whether consulting on a green roof, city square, neighborhood
park or rural estate, Ecotone Land Design seeks to analyze a property’s
ecological, aesthetic and structural qualities and to develop a plan that
meets the functional requirements of the owner while preserving and enhancing
the qualities that are inherent in the site; instead of obliterating or paving
over them.
Mark
Lanier Johnson, MLA, ASLA heads up the firm's effort to provide local landscape
architecture with a regional understanding. A registered landscape architect
(Florida Registration No. 1630), Johnson has been involved with site planning,
planting design, hardscape design and detailing in communities throughout
the Southeast, since arriving in central Florida in 1993; after receiving
his Master of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Georgia.
